About Me

“I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.” -Sarah Williams

Hello, and welcome to my site! My name is Zoe, and I have a passion for travel!

What’s my story, you may ask? Well, right now, I’m an undergraduate student at the University of Cincinnati, studying mechanical engineering, with minors in astrophysics and philosophy. My career goal is to go among the stars, and become an astronaut!

I know what you’re thinking: how on Earth does this relate to travel?

Well, firstly, my program requires 5 semesters of co-op/internship before graduation, and my first internship was in Chong Qing, China working as a teaching assistant for the Joint Co-op Program that CQU has with UC! This experience, helping with mechanical and electrical engineering classes (in English), was a splash of cold water in my somewhat unshaken cultural world. I had had mainly international friends in both college and high school, but I had never been on the other side of things. Furthermore, without knowing Chinese, the language barrier would have been insurmountable without the great group of people who was there to help me!

After I got back home, things were never the same. You see, I had always had an interest in travel, but going abroad for the first time really opens one’s eyes (or should I say, puts stars in them? 😉 ) The wanderlust bug had bitten me badly, and after that, I would follow the affliction whenever I could.

So far, I’ve also been to Haiti (to visit my boyfriend’s family in Port-Au-Prince over Christmas), Tanzania and Kenya (during an Engineers without Borders trip), Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan (for a 6 month co-op), and Canada (for a study tour). The last four Asian countries were all due to my co-op in Japan. As I had extra time before the job started, myself and my co-worker traveled through the other countries as well.

I’m currently living in Cincinnati, Ohio, finishing up my degree in mechanical engineering, with minors in astrophysics and philosophy, at the University of Cincinnati. If you’re ever in the area, drop me a line!

Although I hope to go to space someday, traveling to so many diverse places makes me realize how much Earth still has to offer for everyone!

I hope this blog is able to help you regain the childlike wonder in the way you see the world, and may the stars in your eyes never fade.
